Featuring Steve Ryan,
Morningside College Head Coach
Morningside College finished the 2008 NAIA season:
- #1 in the nation in Scoring Offense (48.6 Pts/G)
- #1 in the nation in Passing Efficiency (185.2)
In this football video, Morningside College head coach Steve Ryan and offensive coordinator Josh Gehring share their secrets to a highly efficient passing game, something they believe has been fundamental to their NAIA team's success. The Morningside Mustangs have made the playoffs each of the last five years (2004-08), two of which they led the nation in scoring. One of the biggest advantages of an efficient passing game is that it spreads the defense out, forcing them to cover the whole field. In addition, the numerous options presented by a more efficient passing game allow you to take what the defense gives you while also allowing you to make the last decision. Coach Gehring describes five different powerful passing scenarios. Each play is described in detail on the whiteboard, followed by narrated game footage that shows the plays put to the test at game speed. When properly implemented, an efficient passing game can help you turn even the shortest passes into big plays.
