with Ricci Woodard, Texas State Head Coach;
4x Southland Conference Coach of the Year; 10x SLC Champions;five NCAA Regional Championship appearances; over 480 career wins
Ricci Woodard's motto at Texas State is "Practice makes permanent." She instills in her players that everything they do in practice will carry over to their game play.
In this All Access Softball DVD, you'll get a behind the scenes look at how Coach Woodard structures her practices around that motto to make sure her players are focusing on quality repetitions. Throughout two practices, recorded live, you will learn how Woodard coaches her players through quality reps.
Coach Woodard rotates hitters through hitting stations working off tees, front toss, and live pitching. Throughout the drills, the hitter's are put in different counts and special attention is paid to their approach to hitting. Listen in as Woodard provides feedback and coaching points to her athletes.
Moving to the field, the team warms-up then breaks up into different defensive drills based on position. The team comes back together and the coaches hit balls to the infield and outfield to work on communication in a game setting. Next, the team shifts gears, working on a base running drill to practice lead-offs and stealing that train the runners to read the pitch as it leaves the pitcher's hand. Practice with some scrimmage situations incorporating the short game.
In this practice, you will see baserunning drills that will help your team successfully take extra bases and score more runs. These baserunning drills focus on reading the third base coach and the leads and reads runners need to make at each base.
In the bullpen, pitchers work on executing quality pitches.
In a defense segment, outfielders work on fielding live balls hit by the infielders off front toss. The roles are then reversed, as the infield works on ground balls with the outfielders serving as base runners.
To wrap up the practice, you'll see Coach Woodard's All-Around Drill, which works on hitting, base running, and defense, all at the same time.
The quality of your practice reps will be reflected in the quality of your games. This season, be sure that your players are getting the high quality reps they need!
